Artwork Description:

Title: Hellebores

Hellebores flower during the dark winter months and provide valuable nectar for early pollinators.

Diana studies and creates many sketches directly from the live plants, this enables her to closely observe their fine details and characteristics. She enlarges these life-sized drawings and using a limited colour palette she applies many layers of transparent watercolour paint.

This painting was selected by the Royal Watercolour Society Open Call 2024 and exhibited at the Bankside Gallery, London.

Artist Bio:

Diana is a botanical artist based on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, a beautiful location that provides her with inspiration in abundance. As the seasons change, she studies and depicts the newly emerging plants and flowers that appear along the clifftops and in her garden.

Diana works mainly in watercolours and ink as she finds this subtly emulates organic structures and form.
