Artists Bio:
Helen Jones is a self-taught artist based in Belper, Derbyshire, who uses canvas and leather as a surface for painting.
She also works closely with dogs and horses and is currently studying canine anatomy which has given additional insight into her animal paintings.
The majority of her work consists of depicting fine art representations, often undertaking commissions in order to paint something of meaning to another person. For several years she has been commissioned to produce Christmas cards for the Greyhound Trust, with sighthounds being a common theme in her work as well as close to her heart.
‘Obviously I love art, and the skills of the Old Masters in particular, but I do sometimes have a problem with the concept of art; sometimes it seems to be rather pretentious and take itself far too seriously. If you see a picture and you like it, that’s fine by me, and if it stirs emotion in you, that’s even better.’
The Stuff and Nonsense Collection is some of Helen’s work which was made as a joyful, fun and of course utterly serious project.
