Brancaster sands and reflected clouds

Artists Bio:

I studied art at A level but then a career in Engineering and bringing up a family interrupted my painting. But I never lost my passion for art and for the last 40 years I’ve been painting again. I’ve shown my art in countless exhibitions and galleries including Sheffield, Hull, Buxton and many others. I live in Wirksworth where I moved to, to continue my taking part in the Festival there and have had my painting included in the Wirksworth Brochure Front Page.

I’m colour blind which seems to come out in my painting style. People always remark on my colour choices but I love to use bright bold colours and never use black. I prefer to use oil paint as it gives time to modify mistakes! But I also use acrylic, pastel and watercolour, and love drawing in charcoal.

My paintings seem to paint themselves . I may have an idea as to how they may finish but always they have a life of there own and I’m  always surprised how the turn out. Emotions run high in my pictures, I like to feel and tell the story behind the painting, and am never satisfied until I’m happy with the tales ending. Many of my pictures are of smaller subjects, flowers, gardens, (another of my passions) but I also love to be in the open air and landscapes are another subject I continue to battle with. It’s so difficult to capture that wide vista on a small piece of canvas.

People seem to appreciate my style and I’ve sold pictures all over the UK and worldwide. It is the best feeling in the world to have people acknowledge your talent enough to purchase artwork. Even if sometimes I cherish the painting and want to keep it. But you cant eat your cake and eat it!
