Hazel Money

Artists Bio:

Hazel is a painter and art tutor living and working in Derbyshire.  Her paintings depict Derbyshire’s varied landscape, with many completed on-location using acrylics or oils. Keeping to a small scale or using a limited palette, she uses this “restriction” to help her distil the essence of a scene when on location.

If painting, she likes to use acrylics for their versatility when out of doors, usually finishing a painting all in one sitting, or by making sketches for use back in her studio.  Sketchbooks are also a passion of Hazel’s, and she can often be spotted around Derbyshire using the pen and wash technique for a quick half-hour drawing – churches, cobbles, old buildings, distant views, a jostle of old cottages… so much to sketch!

She captures quiet unassuming scenes that explore the subtle moods of the seasons, exploring forgotten corners and unusual views away from the beaten path.  In 2020 she designed and published a book “Castleton in Quarantine” featuring drawings created entirely on-location during the first two months of lockdown.  Available for workshops and demonstrations, Hazel also hosts sketching and painting holidays.
