Artists Bio:

I’m Kathryn Cooper and I live in Rayleigh, Essex with my husband and three children. Creating original hand drawn ink and watercolour art.

Painting and drawing are something I have enjoyed for as long as I can remember. I studied Art and Design at GCSE and AS Level at school and then went on to complete a B Tech National Diploma at South East Essex College of Art and Technology.

In 2021 my husband bought me a watercolour painting class as a birthday gift, and things blossomed from there. I began making all kinds of watercolour art including abstract art, surface pattern design, landscapes and urban sketches. When I shared some of these pieces on social media, the response I received was both surprising and exciting!

So during 2022 I set up a small art business called KC Sketches, creating ink and watercolour original art, specialising in house and building portraiture. I’m now extremely lucky to be producing many charming commissioned pieces for customers of their homes, wedding venues, business/commercial buildings and a variety of other places with sentimental meaning. They make perfect unique gifts, and people chose them for so many special reasons and occasions. Hearing all the personal stories behind these requests, is always a heart warming experience.

Much of my work has been made into prints, cards, wedding invitations, coffee shop menus, gift vouchers, tote bags, calendars, and book covers. I am very honoured to have been asked by some local businesses and charities to license my work out to them too.

I spent several years living close to the breath-taking scenery of County Wicklow in Ireland. Those awesome views have been a strong inspiration in creating my miniature watercolour abstract landscapes.  These are expressive and intuitive paintings, made mostly in a palette of blues and browns. Many of them feature moody, dramatic and stormy skies.

I’m having great fun exhibiting at local galleries, exhibitions and art fairs, plus teaching at workshops.
