Artists Bio:
My art journey began in the 1970s and 80s when I could often be found with my Grandpa’s old Kodak Brownie camera, or my sketchbook and pencils in hand. I studied art for my O Levels but as life got busier my art took a back seat. I’ve always taken photos, getting my first DSLR about 15 years ago, and I discovered that getting behind the lens kept me sane during the Covid lockdowns. At the same time I also rekindled my love of art, and in particular, soft pastel, and this has developed into a passion over the last 3 years.
Most of my artworks are in the soft pastel medium (pan pastel, pastel sticks and pastel pencils), but I also work in charcoal. I love the softness of both mediums and the versatility they give.
My main subjects are animals and wildlife, both for my art and my photography, and I love to turn my wildlife photos into artworks when I can. I also love landscapes, especially the Lake District, where I spend much of my leisure time, and the Peak District, where I live.
My brand, Lomi Lou Photo Art, was born from my art and photography, and was initially inspired by the landscapes and resident Herdwick sheep of the Lake District. The name comes from the nickname that my good friends have given me, and is a nod to my maiden name.
