Day 472 (17th April 2024) Elf Cups
Pete Carthy : Nature Journalist

Artists Bio:

My creative practice is intertwined with my love of nature. Initially, this was through landscape photography, which began as a hobby for me when I was 14 years old, photographing the Lake District whilst taking part in a Fylde Coast walking club.

I did a BTEC OND in Photography (1987), then moved to London on my own at 18 – to pursue a career in professional photography.

Over the last forty years, my creative practice has evolved into reduction linocut, botanical eco-print and nature journaling in watercolour – landscapes and botanical illustration.

I have completed a nature journal entry every day in and around the Scottish Borders since January 1, 2023, and have continued throughout 2024 and now into 2025.

In April 2024, BBC Scotland interviewed me about my daily nature journaling practice. In January 2024. an article was published both in print and online in the Peebleshire News and Border Telegraph – Regarding my year of nature journaling –  Border Telegraph article.  In May 2023, I was invited to write a blog post for the ’ International Nature Journaling Week‘ website.

I have recently (February 2025) been awarded a bursary from Luminate Scotland – this is so I can learn how to paint landscape in oils.

On March 22nd 2025 10-4pm – I am running my first art show in Edinburgh. See my website for more info. Entitled Day 811 it represents my journey over the last two and a bit years, both professionally and personally. If you are in Edinburgh or nearby, please come along, I would love to meet you.

I would love to chat to you so get in touch.
