Artists Bio:
I’m Zoë Laughton, (@CasalyOriginalArtwork on Instagram), mum of 3 wonderful football mad boys, living in the beautiful village of Boughton, Northamptonshire; finding a little time in amongst the chaos of daily life, to paint and draw.
After completing A Level Art, I went to the University of Sheffield and attained a degree in History, focusing on the History of Design, and later moved to London to enter the corporate world. I didn’t have the energy to paint for many years, but more recently an art course between changing jobs acted as the catalyst to pick up a paintbrush again. Now I love to paint in vibrant colour, and favour acrylics and watercolours.
I paint mostly on paper, occasionally dabbling on a canvass. I use drawings and photos for reference, along with real life objects and the pieces I produce are a combination of representations of real things with a bit of imagination thrown in!
From a young age I have loved Impressionism and semi-abstract art and used to spend hours recreating images and experimenting with techniques used by the greats. Now inspiration comes from closer to home, from beautiful flowers in our garden to the ever changing view of the rolling fields we are lucky to have.
I don’t always love what I create, but I love the process and find mindfulness and calm amongst the chaos of daily life- and importantly, I want to show my boys that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. They love to paint too, and I’m happiest when we are all sat round a table on a Sunday afternoon, pencils and paintbrushes in hand. That’s where Casaly came from, the house of Laughton Young (our family names).
