Artists Bio:
The sea and connection to the natural world are the key aspects driving my creative process, resulting in pieces that resonate with my enduring love for the wild, untamed Cornish coast. For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to the sea. I am passionate about the spiritual energy and colour of the ocean and how being immersed in wild, natural spaces, where the land, sea and sky meet, reconnects us to our true selves and a sense of freedom.
I paint in a semi-abstract style to communicate my emotional response to the raw power and serene beauty of Cornwall’s coastline. I work intuitively; my textured compositions emerge through the process of applying acrylic, pastel, ink and creased paper. My art seeks to express my gratitude and joy for wild, coastal spaces and how the sea speaks to our soul. My ultimate aim is to invite the viewer to feel the salty breeze, hear the crash of waves, and lose themselves in the vastness of the horizon.
I have always been deeply connected to the natural world, especially the rugged and breathtaking landscapes of Cornwall. Born and raised in Manchester, (definitely not near the ocean!) I enjoyed annual family holidays to Cornwall as a child, which kick-started my love affair with the county. The magnetic pull of the coast stayed with me and I moved to North Cornwall in my late twenties. Nearly twenty-five years later, with the addition of a husband, two children and a dog, this is the place I am proud to call my home.
I am a self-taught artist. Throughout my life, I have turned to creativity as a way of finding joy and purpose. During a long career in teaching and a painful period of burnout, I found myself turning to art for my well-being. Over the years I have discovered the importance of living an authentic life, being true to oneself and seeking joy through simple pleasures. My studio is a converted shed at the bottom of my garden, a stone’s throw from the beach. One of my greatest pleasures is painting in the studio with the door open, my dog snoozing at my feet, a mug of tea on the go and the sound of seagulls in the background.
That’s a little about my life; how and why I came to create the art I make today. Thank you for stopping by. I hope it has piqued your interest in my artwork. If you would like to discover more about my work I invite you to explore my complete Arti profile and portfolio.
