Title: Calm Hippo

Calm Hippo

Acrylic on Canvas, palette knife

Calm Hippo is a bold exploration of emotion and power through color and texture. Using a rich palette of purples, magentas, and deep reds, this expressive portrait reimagines the hippopotamus, often seen as a symbol of brute strength, as a mystical, almost celestial being. The textured palette knife evokes movement and energy, while the splattered background give energy and movement.  The intense, otherworldly gaze of the hippo draws viewers into a moment of quiet confrontation with the wild, the unknown, and perhaps even the inner self.

Artist Bio:
I live in the beautiful village of Carsington in Derbyshire.

My work focuses on creating atmospheric and textured landscapes, but I also create large abstract art pieces.

I am inspired by my surroundings and the fauna and flora of my local reservoir.

My abstract pieces are created with instinct and emotion, always focusing on the drama and intrigue a piece can portray.  Each piece is lovingly crafted, taking care to ensure the mood of a piece is captured through the use of harmonious and contrasting colours.
