Artwork Description:

Title: Cloudbursting 1

‘Cloudbursting’ is one of two paintings I did in the Spring of 2025. We live close to the countryside and i absolutely love the ponds and canals as we almost always see a heron.

Made largely of collage which sits underneath the painting, this piece has a calming palette of blues and lilacs.

A large heron stands on one leg waiting patiently for his dinner. The ripples in the water where he stands were hand sewn as were the subtle raindrops in the sky.

Many of the flowers are abstract but some such as the white daisies are more recognisable.

There are lots of layers of paint and collage which give this painting a depth. There is interest crammed into every inch!

Artist Bio:
My art is all about colour.

Colour is such a powerful tool to draw the viewer in. It sets a mood, invites imagination and brings joy. I draw my inspiration from the countryside around me but I work almost entirely intuitively. To do this, I start by covering my surface with collage. This can be papers, book pages, music sheets, fabric.....the list is endless. I arrange these on the canvas, stick them down and then paint on the top using acrylic paint.

I paint flowers in various forms. Some are easily recognisable flower forms and others are more abstract. I combine these with pattern and marks, filling every inch with something to see!

I never know how a painting will turn out but that I believe is what makes my art so unique! The fresh energy in each piece makes them truly special!
