Title: Hidden Chalice

Original Artwork – Original painting size: 108 x 82cm

Acrylic on canvas – Abstract

This abstract painting titled “Hidden Chalice” lives up to its name through layered complexity and subtle suggestion. The piece is a whirlwind of color and texture, with earthy tones, intertwined in sweeping, chaotic strokes. There’s an almost smoky, dreamlike haze that permeates the canvas, with light purples and deep browns brushing up against each other, creating a sense of depth and mystery.

Amid the energetic brushwork and scattered white paint splatters, a darker central area—composed of black, crimson, and dull purples—catches the eye. Within this focal point, a chalice-like form seems to emerge subtly: not overt, but hinted at with a curved, bowl-like shape and dark shading that resembles a cup or vessel being cradled by the surrounding strokes.

The dynamic movement and overlapping layers evoke a sense of searching or discovery, as if the chalice—symbolic of knowledge, spirituality, or desire—is obscured within the chaos of thought or experience.  I am inviting the viewer to find the sacred within disorder.

Artist Bio:
I live in the beautiful village of Carsington in Derbyshire.

My work focuses on creating atmospheric and textured landscapes, but I also create large abstract art pieces.

I am inspired by my surroundings and the fauna and flora of my local reservoir.

My abstract pieces are created with instinct and emotion, always focusing on the drama and intrigue a piece can portray.  Each piece is lovingly crafted, taking care to ensure the mood of a piece is captured through the use of harmonious and contrasting colours.
