Artwork Description:

Title: Solo (Diamonds in the legs)

This is “Solo (Diamonds in the legs). Inspired by a quote from a rider after winning a stage.

On that particular race day they were free to fly and up the road after solo attack from the breakaway – taking it all the way to the stage win.

They said in the post-race interview “Today, I had diamonds in the legs”.

I absolutely loved that description of pure achievement and being at one with the bike. It inspired this painting from my Peloton Abstract collection.

Artist Bio:

I’m George Johnston, a contemporary artist from Glasgow, Scotland. While my career background is in design and publishing, my true passion lies in art and sport.

For me, cycling is art. Through Peloton Abstract, I fuse my passion for both cycling and art, using abstract design to capture the speed, colors, chaos, excitement, and energy of ‘a moment in time’ during a race—the elements and the attrition. I also incorporate hidden shapes, inviting viewers to interpret them in their own way.

This collection honors the inclusive spirit of cycling, showcasing how the sport unites people of all backgrounds and abilities. It captures the essence of teamwork, perseverance, and a shared passion for the race, making cycling a universal experience for everyone.
