Artwork Description:

Title: Wild Blues & Greens

I enjoyed focussing on the jewel-like colours in this picture – from the background to the details of plants and butterflies – blues, greens, aquas, lavenders, violets. It’s a wild tangle of leaves, flowers and grasses including cornflowers, tree peony leaves, and lavenders. This gorgeous ceramic planter is from my own wild garden, and I love its colours and imperfections. This piece is based on rediscovering a planter left to run wild in a forgotten part of the garden.

I create the Wild Collage Collection digitally, using a combination of my alcohol ink paintings, drawings and photographic images, which are individually layered piece by piece to create a whole whimsical picture.

Artist Bio:

My name’s Karen Johnson and I'm the Derby based artist behind Millie Moth. Inspired by my wild garden, my work falls into 2 styles - one uses alcohol inks to paint vibrant flowers, and the other is created digitally using elements of my paintings, drawings and isolated photographic images. My work is full of colour and I aim to convey the happiness I feel when I’m around flowers and foliage. There is such a wealth of life in every small growing space and I try to capture that beauty and vigour by injecting a little wildness and joy into every piece.
