Title: Wildflower Festival – Fine art print

This is Wildflower Festival, a semi abstract wildflower oil painting. This vibrant happy piece would brighten up any wall with its eyecatching colour pallete. Painted using a range of iconic 70’s retro shades, this chilled out image is bringing festival vibes to my wildflower collection. My signature style works well on top of this highly textured background with just the right balance of florals in a pleasing peaceful composition.

As with most of my wildflower paintings, the background was created using a palette knife to drag the oil paint around the canvas creating movement and texture. I kept the sky white as it was such a strange day outside,  mid summer with no sign of the sun, only fluffy white clouds covering the whole sky. I knew I wanted to create a vintage floral piece so opted for a neutral landscape the colour of barley, again using a palette knife. This was then left to dry before continuing. Once dry, I used thin nozzled tubes with thinned oil paints and added the wild, carefree strands that almost reach up to the sky, then added my first section of abstract florals bringing a splash of yellow, orange and brown to the canvas. Then I used the nozzled tubes to create my signature style wildflower outlines and add carefully selected complimentary oil droplets. to layer the piece up.

The end result is simply charming, fun and peaceful. This striking piece will bring festival vibes even on the cloudiest of days.

Hi, I'm Jess aka the Navy Sloth. I'm a part time artist and full time mum of two beautiful little girls. I paint as often as my limited spare time allows and love every second of it. I'm based in Cardiff, and paint in my little studio within our home. It's my little corner where I can switch off for a few hours and just be my creative self (it's meant to be a toy free zone but somehow they have crept in slowly - you know how it is!)

I create semi abstract wildflower paintings on canvas, combining my illustrative skills with a bold abstract style. My work is vibrant, fun and full of texture, perfect to add a splash of colour to any wall!
