Artwork Description:

Title: Delicate Wings

One of the worlds wonders, that something as beautiful and delicate as a butterfly can come from a caterpillar. The graceful flap of the iridescent wings, catching the light or gently balanced on the petal of a flower.

Part of a series of cyanotype prints of British wildlife, created with plants collected from the British countryside and gardens. The artwork is created using a double exposure technique, first arranging the pressed plants and flowers onto the light-sensitive surface, to create the desired pattern, exposing to UV light and then removing the flora and placing a hand-cut stencil down to create the defined shape of the butterfly.

Artist Bio:
Emily is a fine artist with a special interest in the traditional photography process of cyanotype, making iconic blue images from her own photographs and pressed botanicals.

With her camera, Emily enjoys capturing the beauty in nature through the seasons, and can be found exploring abandoned buildings and picking flowers and leaves to press for her art. As well as taking inspiration from nature, she also explores memory and nostalgia in her work.
