Artwork Description:

Title: Vibrant Marigold

A gorgeous celebration of the marigold, which as one of my favourite flowers, fills my garden with joyful yellows and oranges every year. The main colour on this is a beautiful bright orange, blending with a luscious creamy lemon and with a stunning freckled middle. I used gold pigments to create the centre of this flower and this combination of colours, painted on black paper, gives depth and fullness to the vibrancy of the flower.

This was painted on black Nara paper, which is a waterproof paper allowing for the inks to move around freely. To paint on black requires very different techniques as colour dropped onto black appears to almost disappear. In order for the colours used to shine, it is important to use white ink first and drop the colour onto this. The inks are carefully blown into the shape of a flower and the addition of further colour and alcohol enable me to continue working with the inks until I am satisfied.

Artist Bio:
I paint vibrant and quirky nature-inspired abstracts, uplifting landscapes, effervescent still lifes, as well as, fantasy worlds, planets and waterscapes. I use primarily alcohol-based inks on Yupo or Nara paper, which is waterproof, enabling the inks to move around. Inks are a fluid medium, although I occasionally branch out into some mixed-media artwork. My art captures moments of joy, peace and reflection in the world around me.
